Seat have responded to me and said...

"Thank you for your recent contact with regards to DSG Gearbox.

SEAT UK has no known concerns with the 02E gearbox fitted to our vehicles. As such there are no plans to offer an extension of the warranty on this component.

With regards to the fault you have described, there are a number of issues that can result in this concern.

If you are concerned there is an issue on your vehicle, SEAT UK would advise you arrange to carry out a test drive with one of our dealership staff and demonstrate the fault."

3 -  Have you had DSG problems? / Fault Register Report / Seat Leon FR TFSI DSG - gearchanges clunky when car is hot

Started by bigdave146 - Last post by bigdave146 on: August 12, 2010, 10:15:27 AM

Hi all

In the last few weeks, when my car is left at work all day in the sun and its a hot day, for about 10 mins after I start driving it at the end of the day, the auto and manual gearchanges are really noisy (clonking) and a couple of times there has been severe hesitation between changes, resulting in me nearly having to pick my teeth out of the steering wheel.

Went into dealer (on cloudy cool days) and funnily enough they couldnt find the problem.  Anyone seen anything similar ?

Registered Feb 06, 40500 miles.

It is now frequently dropping into neutral from D when moving, all the lights flashing. Moving to manual fixes it.

Fault code found by my usual garage is

CODE001: 28775 U12103 Selector sporadic:  Lever:no Value of communication resistance too great.

Goes into a VW dealer later in the week for full diagnostic.

Hi, At least VW are consistent as we've had the same response
I suppose this means that there are so many DSG failures that it would cost them an awful lot to compensate everyone.

Our 6 year old Touran (90,000 miles with full service history) needs a new DSG at a cost of £3700 but it’s only worth £5000.
On website: www.1stchoice.co.uk you post the problem and get offers from companies who think they can help.
It could be good money after bad but I'm tempted to go for a reconditioned DSG with warrantee at half the VW price

6 -  Have you had DSG problems? / Fault Register Report / Touran DSG replacement - too good to be true

??? After VW told us to take a funny run when we invited them to contribute to the £3,700 cost of a replacement gearbox, we ebayed a spare and found a link to a company in Basildon called 'Pistons & Cogs'

They have offered to collect the car, replace the unit with a reconditioned but guaranteed (2 years) box, and all for half the VW price.

Sounds too good to be true.  Anybody else been there, done that?

8 -  Have you had DSG problems? / Fault Register Report / 2009 VW Scirocco 2.0GT Juddering coming to slow stop

Started by bhids - Last post by bhids on: July 25, 2010, 09:27:29 PM

Your Car Details: VW
Make Scirocco
Model  2.0 petrol
Trim (GTi?)  GT
Manufacture Date    Jan 09
Symptoms of DSG Fault  - Juddering coming to a stop, feels like it wants to stall, just as the DSG selects 1st Gear
Date of Fault  - May 10
Mileage   - 26k
Under Warranty?   Yes
If out of warranty, did VW repair for free? offer a contribution? Offer no support?
Parts replaced   -  Mechatronic Unit x2,   new gearbox
Cost if any?  none

I've noticed the problem for a while now, probably about a 2 months now and it was getting worse.
took the car into VW and went out with the technician who experienced the problem.
Fault - When the car has been driven in excess of an hour or so it feels as though it wants to stall when coming to a standstill. The engine idle speed fluctuates while the DSG gets into the correct gear.
Initially i was told they would carry out a full diag and reset of all systems.
Done that problem still their.
Ordered a new Mechatronic unit fitted - now car will not select 3rd gear.
car still with VW awaiting another Mechatronic unit as first appears to be faulty, arrived on Friday, fitted same problem.
Have been told that gearbox needs to be replaced, which is currently on order.
Shall keep post updated as work progress's.

UPDATE

Got the car back today.
And so far it seems as good as new.
I haven't given it good test yet ie. in excess of hours driving in slow traffic but will keep a close eye on it and report back.
I received a copy of the invoice sheet which goes to VW HQ and it came to £5250, good job i had warranty!!!
Imagine having to pay that just outside your 3 year warranty.
Does bring up the question about the secondhand values of cars with DSG gearbox's, as i see it if they are proving to be that unreliable then no ones going to want to really buy one without some sort of a half decent warranty.

9 -  Fancy a moan? / Have a moan... / Complete failure of DSG box

Started by John B - Last post by John B on: July 19, 2010, 04:20:53 PM

I have a 4years and two months old Golf Plus 2.0TDI purchased new in May,2006. Two weeks ago, with no warning the car began to "shudder" on each gear change. I took it to the dealers (who had serviced the car from new) and within three hours they called to tell me that the gearbox was a write-off and would cost me around £4000 to replace! I would welcome comments on how to proceed in a fight with the dealership and VW over who pays. John B.

Update...

Took the car to the stealer, Camberley Audi (Colbornes), who tested it and declared it likely to be the Mechatronic unit. They suggested that the gearbox oil be changed, 1 year ahead of the normal maintenance schedule, and the "systems" reset as a precaution so we agreed to do this. We were charged £252 for the gearbox oil change service and asked to drive it for a while and see how it went.

The car is no different to the original symptoms described but to clarify, these symptoms were and continue to be intermittent. Some days it's perfect, some days it's jerky? Hot or cold doesn't seem to matter.

We fed this back to Camberley Audi and requested they put in a claim for assistance from Audi for the  repair/replacement of the Mechatronic unit. Audi UK have replied to the stealer and rejected outright any claim for assistance. The service advisor at Camberley Audi told me this over the phone and advised that there will be no formal written communication to this effect. Do you think I should be offered written confirmation? Should I insist on it?
The car has just clicked over 12k miles, was purchased from new at Camberley Audi and has a full service history from them.

Camberley Audi have verbally provided an approximate price of £2K to replace the Mechatronic but cannot order the part without first checking our unit as, apparently, each unit is build for each car and have to be individually ordered. I very much doubt the latter and really don't have very much confidence in the Audi dealer system  ::)

So what to do? My plan is to write to the dealer principal if there is such a thing and possibly Audi UK, however I'm not expecting much joy.

Other than that we will continue to use the car as is until the problem either goes away or gets significantly worse and needs to be repaired at which time I will probably take it to a specialist rather than put any more money in Camberley Audi/Audi UK's pocket.

Cheers

Mark
